Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command (LAC) is located in the south of the Northern Region. Tuggerah Lakes LAC encompasses the Wyong Council boundaries from Bateau Bay in the South, across to Kulnura in the West and Gwandalan to the North, running parallel with the Tasman Sea in the East and bordered by the Watagan Mountains in the West.

The neighbouring Local Area Commands are Brisbane Water to the South, Lake Macquarie to the North and Lower Hunter to the West.

The command is a popular holiday destination, and the Hunter Tourist Information Centre estimates that up to 1.5 million tourists visit the Central Coast per annum.

DEMOGRAPHICS

- A population of 143,988 (2007 estimate).
- A total area of 820.42 sq. km.
- 47,400 hectares of National Parks and State Forests.
- Over 35% of the Shire is designated as a State or National Park.
- 5,600 hectares of developed residential area.
- 33 km of coastline.
- 79.6 sq. km of lakes.
- 9,400 businesses (June 2006).
- A labour force of 59,000 (2006).
- 74% of jobs available locally filled by Shire residents (2006).
- More than 20,000 residents employed outside the Shire (2006).
- A majority (72%) of residents travel to work by car (2006).
- 30% of residents attend a formal education institution (2006).
- 1,066km of roads (1,011km local and regional, 55km state roads).
- Annual Council expenditure of approximately $360 million.

There are three police stations within the Tuggerah Lakes local Area Command, with the Local Area Command Office being situated in the new premises at the Wyong Police station.
